Butterfly Snacks have been researched, developed and founded in the North West. The reason why their gluten free products were awarded “The most innovative product 2007” at the Food North West awards is because it is the first product of its kind to be manufactured to the open market. Research has shown there are 1 in 100 people who are coeliac, so as you are reading this right now, there will be a person who is or should be on a gluten free diet nearby.
A family member who was diagnosed coeliac in 2003 was the inspiration for butterfly snacks and solely based on her dietary needs, trial and error in the kitchen brought about a range of gluten free foods such as samosas, spring rolls, chicken zinger burgers and chapattis. She can now enjoy whatever the rest of the family is eating on a daily basis without compromising taste or feeling left out. In 2006, 800 coeliac patients were monitored and she was the only patient who was not suffering but actually gaining weight and living a healthy, carefree lifestyle.
Based on this statistic, MD Tariq Malik researched the whole market for similar products and failed to identify any company providing such products. With the help of Kendal College and Manchester Metropolitan University, we have been developing our range of gluten-free products for people on this diet.
Butterfly snacks products have been further developed to be low fat as well. We want to further develop product lines allowing more variety to coeliac/wheat intolerance palates.
The difficulties we faced highlighted the need for these types of products and the need for more choice. We are always developing new products and ideas to help make it easier and tastier for our customers to thrive on a gluten-free diet.
Now, great foods for special diets are more accessible than ever!
